Switch is a proposal for an interactive multimedia artwork to be installed simultaneously in two living rooms, one in London and the other in a city in Poland. It consists of two lights, two switches installed on a single two-way circuit, and two photographs, one below each light. The photograph in the Poland home is of the occupant of the London home, a young woman who has migrated to London in search of a job.  The photograph in the London home is of her mother, who she has left behind.  When the daughter in London switches her light on, the light in Poland switches off, and vice versa. Thus mother and daughter must compete to view the photograph on display in their respective living rooms.

Technical specifications: 2 x photographs; 2 x mains voltage lamps; 2 x Standard 433Mhz wireless, logic controlled mains power outlet (to connect to lamps);  2 x Arduino Diecimila; 2 x Laptops for network interface with ADSL connectivity; 2 x ADSL modems; Wireless switch and receiver.
